Summer Heat

It feels amazing being able to enjoy the lovely weather outside. It’s so important to prevent heat related emergencies.  Some of the waring signs:
  • No sweating
  • Headache
  • Fainting
  • Rapid or shallow breathing
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizzy
  • Muscle cramps
  • Abdominal pain

Prevention is key, being proactive is really important to prevent heat related emergencies.  Drinking plenty of fluids to maintain your hydration level.  Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day.  Take cover, seek out shade.  Taking lots of breaks and monitor how you are feeling.  Listen to your body.


  • Staying cool:
    • Dressing for the weather.  Light and loose-fitting clothing, sun hats and some sunglasses
    • Going for a swim or playing in at a splash pad
    • Having a popsicle or ice-cream
    • Putting a bucket of ice in front of your fan
    • Eating less salty foods
    • Spending some time in an environment that has AC
    • Water mister
    • Slip in slide for kids
    • Water balloons
    • Stay out of the heat during the hottest part of the day
